Bixby 2.0 may eliminate the need to say ‘Hi Bixby’ for every command
Home / News / Bixby 2.0 may eliminate the need to say ‘Hi Bixby’ for every command
    DANNY D. / 15 HOURS AGO
Samsung introduced its personal digital assistant Bixby last year with the Galaxy S8. The voice assistant is yet to receive a major update but as our reviews have shown, it holds a lot of promise for software that’s only in its first iteration.

Samsung introduced Bixby 2.0 three months ago at its developer conference in San Francisco, it said that this will be a “bold reinvention” of the Bixby platform. A new report out of China suggests that Bixby 2.0 will power effortless communication with Galaxy smartphones, enabling users to give one command after the other without having to say the “Hi Bixby” hotword every single time.

Bixby 2.0 may enable effortless communication with Galaxy smartphones
Say you want to ask Bixby what’s the time right now in London. You say Hi Bixby and then follow it up with the relevant voice command. Now you want to ask what’s the weather like there but right now you have to say the hotword again.

A China-based source who has been right on multiple accounts in the past claims that Bixby 2.0 will let users talk to the assistant continuously. This means that they may only have to say Hi Bixby once and will be able to effortlessly give follow-up voice commands to the assistant.

Samsung did say that Bixby 2.0 is going to transform basic digital assistants into an intelligence tool and that it’s going to feature enhanced natural language capabilities. Allowing users to constantly speak to the assistant without requiring the hotword every single time or a tap on the on-screen Bixby button is really going to make life easier for them, particularly in situations where they can’t hold the phone in their hands.

Unfortunately, Samsung is yet to reveal when Bixby 2.0 is going to be released. Today’s report doesn’t mention anything about availability as well. We’ve heard nothing so far to suggest that Samsung might introduce Bixby 2.0 with the Galaxy S9 even though it would make perfect sense for the company to do so.

So there is some movement....what are we looking for.
Always listening is so powerful that the Bix button will have to go.
A Smartphone that is dumber than an always listening lightbulb
    has no GEEK factor?

Come on Japan voice focused carrier, be the first one.
    Its right there for you/////

QuickLogic to Present at the Reach China Investment Conference in Beijing

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ:QUIK), a developer of ultra-low power programmable sensor processing, embedded FPGA IP, display bridge and programmable logic solutions, will participate in the Reach China Investment Conference being held June 26-27, 2017, at the China World Hotel in Beijing.

President and CEO Brian Faith and Dr. Sue Cheung, the company's CFO, are scheduled to present at 9:45 a.m. local time on Tuesday, June 27th. The investor presentation will be posted to http://ir.quicklogic.com/

As the world's largest manufacturing country for mobile and wearable devices, China is an important, strategic market for QuickLogic. After the conference, the management team will attend Mobile World Congress Shanghai for customer and ecosystem partner meetings.

Reach China is a consulting firm that facilitates cross-border transactions and business activities. The Reach China Investment Conference will feature select U.S.listed and global companies from the Healthcare, Consumer, Technology, and Industrial sectors and will offer a premier investment and business platform for Chinese institutional investors and management teams.

Now, with the China news, and we should have more in that geography. Brian Faith may have to explain to many say at Needham who TenCent WeChat is, but maybe a few folks over there can put each CHina news item into context and make an investment decision without any need for an explanation.

    one picture...

    what did I learn?

I really didn't know that bluetooth head sets are already selling in some BIG numbers for wearables?

QUIK can you turn all these to hearables and heart monitors?

    thnks in advance.

'on '18, I have made it a key thing that when we get some more info that is more than we had hoped for, to use such an item to
completely sever with the past and leave it behind. An item that says there is just NO point in carrying such stuff in your head.

Consider that some events that were painful are VERY good for  QUIK. How?

just a few.

1. SPI- sensor platforms inc.- when their ip was taken out, and QUIK scrambled and built an algo team. I like that it happened now. Why?
I see parallels to the current situation of Sensory IP. I sleep better knowing they WILL not be overdependent on any single IP partner. That each and every contract will take the very real possibility of M & A into consideration. They will do in house what they can.

2. Andy Pease- "we do NOT call on Apple." I read the detailed account of Apple leading little Valencel along- seeing all the health stuff they had- with some notion of using their IP- then zippo and Apple maybe just took the best of the ideas. The lawsuit won't do Valencel much good?

Commentary-so in the GEEK writing they say...SiRi has trouble still with the high rates of voice recognition that As Alexa and Goog have. Their accuracy is lagging. Always on voice has put a crack in their future? Its great in some ways. No offence to the very loyal Apple ecosystem fans.

3. Apical- Michael Tusch's one very grt algo. It was compute intense. It was a huge success, it has been placed on BILLIONS of smartphones.
It must have really stung when that algo fell to Moores law and was placed onto the CPUs of those Billions of devices. :(.

It must have increased the resolve to get onto the RIGHT side of Moore's law as we are now.

So having been in business for these past 30 yrs. gives them real experience not only with eFPGA tools, but they are wise in ways start ups are NOT? They are not likely to blow it as they step from one room to the next-they will just execute and follow the technology-
Just some background work for the coming months...

  1. Snips from the last cc for review...

The FFE is a highly differentiated and proprietary element of our multi-core Sensor Processing architecture, enables very low power always-on use cases, and is used by our tier one Smartphone OEM for certain always-on features of their wearable device.

During the last quarter this customer continued to refine its software to optimize accuracy and battery life and is now in the process of expanding its field testing to include several hundred users. I also had an opportunity to briefly try out the new wearable during a customer visit and believe the outcome will be worth the wait.

Given the discussions I’ve had with this customer’s senior executives, and our continued involvement with manufacturing engineering, I have a high level of confidence it will move into mass production during the first half of 2018, but as it stands today, I am unsure about the exact timing. Please note though, while significant, this is only one of many growth drivers I envision coming into play during the first half of 2018.

As I noted last quarter, this tier one OEM has made a top-down strategic commitment to include always-on / always listening voice in all of its future wearable and hearable designs. Since our EOS S3 SoC can support the customer’s always-on / always listening requirement at a fraction of the power needed by other MCU solutions, we believe we have a substantial competitive advantage.

Due to this significant power consumption advantage and the depth of experience the customer has built during its first wearable design using our EOS S3 SoC as a host and sensor processing solution, the OEM is working closely with us on two new high-volume consumer designs that are targeted to include always-on / always listening voice features. Both of these new products are scheduled for production in mid-2018.

One of these new designs is a wearable device where the customer can directly leverage the software it has developed and refined for EOS S3 during the last year. This design opportunity transitioned from an evaluation to an engagement since our last conference call. The second, a hearable device, which can also leverage the customer’s software investment, is still in the evaluation stage.

If we are successful in winning these new designs, QuickLogic will exit the first half of 2018 shipping production quantities to support three high volume EOS S3 designs with this tier one customer.

    and

So, on the tier one delay, yes, it’s definitely a delay, obviously we don’t have that in Q4 guidance, but we still see a lot of work on the software side. And as you point that software will be leveraged into these other projects if we are successful in those. The timing of those we indicated leaving the second quarter next year ending the first half, I think the timing of those is fairly accurate because those are based on product types that they’re already shipping in the market, these are not new product categories.

For the other wearable that we’ve been talking about for some time now it’s somewhat different, and I think that’s one of the reasons that they’re putting a lot of energy into optimizing this for the used case and the battery life, and that’s why I don’t think it pops up against that exact same timing of those other two because it is different, and that’s probably the extent of what I can say on that at this time.

Amazon now accepting Gear Fit 2 pre-orders ahead of tomorrow’s launch

Disclosure: This article may contain affiliate links. Click here for more info.

Following a number of leaks, Samsung finally unveiled the New Gear Fit 2 device at an event in New York City last week. Pre-orders of the device went live on Samsung’s website a few days ago, with the official launch scheduled for June 10th. Those keen to get their hands on the new tracker will be happy to know, Amazon and other retailers are now accepting pre-orders.

The South Korean manufacturer’s next generation activity tracker comes with a worthy bump in specs that may bring Samsung a larger bite of the global wearables pie. The fitness device comes equipped with a slew of features, such as a standalone music player and increased memory storage, as well as a comfortable and stylish design.

In terms of sensors, the major bump in specs compared to the original version released two years ago, comes from the inclusion of a built-in GPS and barometer. The GPS will allow you to track walking, running, cycling and other activites, with mapped routes showing directly on the tracker’s screen. The barometre counts floors. The device also come equipped with a heart rate sensor, gyroscope and accelorometer. The heart rate sensor takes a reading every 10 minutes, and more often during exercise.

So if it fits into this pattern great. They have varied it a little-especially if they get wind of some major intro by a competitor, but things to note....
they were shipping right at announcement time, they were ready to roll. It was early June so that means they were making the devices and taking parts a good month before that.
Note that Samsungs Iconx official name has a year tied to it....

If you are looking for earphones factories that uses our technology, we can introduce you to Foxlink, TaiSing Industries or Awei.

QUIK can you make a call on all these guys?

oh yeah you already have! sweet.

Note there are now 2 known MCHR IP guys that are in hearables.

Valencel.
these guys- well being digital. ( yeah I really like their name) well being, being digital ( NP's book and I read it)=well being digital. I get it.
Being Digital[1] is a non-fiction book about digital technologies and their possible future by technology author Nicholas Negroponte. It was originally published in January 1995 by Alfred A. Knopf.

I will track these guys along as it seems they have some nice things in their adjacent possible that
are different than the ones that Valencel has.
will they be at MWC in Feb?

yes,

for the casual reader...

the algos that do the motion compensation have been on the QUIK slide deck for yrs. as something that taxes the MCUs a little bit....
