Xiaomi’s first smartwatch, expected to launch in Q2 2016: Report
      #XIAOMI MI BAND 2
      0
      By tech2 News Staff / 07 Apr 2016 , 18:50
A Mi Ecosystem partner has revealed that smartphone maker Xiaomi has plans to reveal its first smartwatch alongside the launch of its Mi Band 2 fitness band in the second quarter of 2016.

The details come from a Chinese website, who in an interview with Huami Technology’s CEO, Wang. Wang who worked with Xiaomi on the first Mi Band, is also working on building the next Mi Band and a smartwatch. Both devices are expected to be announced in the next two months.

The upcoming Mi Band is expected to sport a small display, which is a first for the company in its wearables line up. Wang states that the new smartwatch will work towards reducing its dependability on a smartphone to display information which is why there’s a display.

Indeed, the addition of a display will bring up the price of the wearable. The new device is expected to be slightly costlier than the previous model. Another bit of information is to do with the branding of the wearable. Xiaomi is expected to drop the “Mi” branding from the name and the new wearable is expected to be called the Band 2.

Apart from the above no other details have been revealed. Xiaomi indeed took the wearables market by storm when it launched its Mi Band fitness tracker in India. Thousands flocked to buy the smartband that was priced at Rs 999.

      Humai?

Huami launches second wearable Amazfit, a «milestone product»
Huami Corp, China's largest and the world's third-largest wearable devices maker, has launched what officials are describing as a totally new design concept in fitness bands.

Huang Wang, its founder and CEO, said he considers the company's new Amazfit band as a milestone product for the firm, which is already closely tied to Xiaomi Corp, the Chinese smartphones and electronics maker, on the development of wearable products.

The Amazfit made its first public appearance on 17 September 2015 in Beijing, becoming the company's second fitness tracker, after its Mi band.

Huami, the Chinese startup that’s Xiaomi’s fitness wearables partner, has secured US$35 million in series B funding. The startup’s announcement says that the investment is from Banyan Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Morningside Capital.

Xiaomi – whose Mi Band fitness tracker was actually created by Huami – contributed to the startup’s more modest series A at the beginning of this year, but did not put any money into this newest round. Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun also threw money into Huami’s series A via his Shunwei China Internet Fund.

Huami now values itself at US$300 million.

Xiaomi has sold one million Mi Band fitness trackers in the three months since its launch, making the cheap device (it costs just RMB 79, which is US$13) possibly China’s top wearable tech product.

Yesterday it was apparent that Xiaomi is hedging its bet in terms of smart wearables by participating in a US$40 million funding round for US-based Misfit.

QUIK this China maker of wearables for Xiaomi would be a good place for the Eos to get a serious eval?

      Thanks in advance.

    Commentary,

Through the lens of S Johnson's concepts of the adjacent possible, where things happen in rich corals reefs, in fluid netowrks of the Lloyd coffee houses.
Its the same thing Huami is setting up the key part of their efforts where?

NOT Shenzhen, or anywhere in China, rather not far from QUIK in mountain view CA>

Why? that is where the coral reef of sensor fusion is and they want to be there.

Anyway QUIK its not far from you to this think tank for Xiaomis wearable designers....Huami, the name is Huami.
Keep them well supplied with Eos stuff.

    THanks in advance.

We want to read this name in the coming mo
Just for fun how long would it take the QUIK folks to drive over to Huami's Mountain View offices?
