We liked Samsung's Gear Fit 2, but it had its limits. You couldn't use it to track your swimming, for starters. It's a good thing, then, that well-known leaker Evan Blass claims to have a training deck detailing a sequel that should be unveiled at Samsung's August 23rd event. The Gear Fit 2 Pro would look much like its predecessor, complete with that tall, curved display, but would include some big design upgrades. Most notably, it would add 5 ATM water resistance and that hoped-for swim tracking -- it'll sync up with the Speedo On app. Accordingly, the Pro switches from a snap-on strap to a watch-like buckle to prevent it from falling off in mid-backstroke.

The full extent of the software upgrades isn't available, but the new wristwear should also support offline Spotify playback.
So long as you have a pair of Bluetooth headphones, you won't need to bring your phone to get a soundtrack for your gym sessions. GPS tracking was already included in the Fit 2 and should carry over here.

There's no mention of pricing, not to mention whether this will replace or complement the Fit 2. The Pro badge suggests that it could be sold alongside the earlier wristwear, but nothing mentioned so far would explicitly justify a price hike. There's only a few days until the reported launch, though, so it won't take long to learn whether or not the new model is within your budget.

      commentary...
So the leaks won't stop. This device is going to be unveiled near term. Notice how leaks are part of the game. Unveiling does not mean shipping...they should have a ship date at the unveiling- I would expect 1-2 months to allow the PR machine to build it up to a nice feaver pitch.

So will track along. Am sorry the pieces don't all fit together like they should.

To the question; Is there another Tier 1 device that fits in every way what it has to? Could I have missed it somewhere?

Nothing at Samsung that can be glimpsed at all. ........someone else.....I sift the sand pretty good and have nothing.

Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro: Swim tracking, offline Spotify support, and a more secure clasp
      EVAN BLASS@EVLEAKS AUGUST 14, 2017 10:57 AM
      [IMG]

While the star of Samsung’s Unpacked event on August 23 will undoubtedly be the Galaxy Note8, the mammoth smartphone is not the only device poised for an unveiling in a little over a week. Samsung also plans to introduce a new, backwards-compatible GearVR headset and its latest fitness smartband, the Gear Fit2 Pro.

Somewhat confusingly, the Fit2 Pro is actually the third fitness tracker from the South Korean manufacturer and builds on the Tizen-powered Gear Fit2 in a number of ways, according to a training deck shared with VentureBeat.

First and foremost is the addition of so-called 5 ATM water resistance, which will allow the band to be fully submerged and enables tracking during swimming workouts. The Gear Fit2, by comparison, is IP-68 certified against brief interactions with water, but is not submersible. The Fit2 Pro syncs up with the Speedo On app.

Another addition, one which makes the upcoming band more of a competitor against smartwatches, is music playback — including support for offline Spotify tracks. Like its predecessor, Gear Fit2 Pro also includes GPS functionality.

Finally, the Pro model offers a watch-style clasp that makes it more suitable for vigorous workouts, whereas the regular Fit2 only features a snap clasp. The band is compatible with both iOS and Android handsets, and includes a year’s subscription to Under Armour’s premium tier of digital services.

It wasn’t clear if the Gear Fit2 Pro will serve as a replacement for, or be sold alongside, the current model. Pricing and release details were not mentioned in the training material.

      Do not covet,
      not my neighbors wife,
      A friends Tesla,

but Evan Blass's job...but not his medical conditions....so I am glad he has a job like this with his diagnosis....

      I covet it.

      Head shot of Evan Blass
      Occupation Blogger, Editor, Phone leaker
      Known for Founding @evleaks

Evan Nelson Blass, once known solely by his pen name @evleaks, is an American blogger, editor, and phone leaker. He gained international notoriety for a series of numerous smartphone and tablet leaks on Twitter, spanning the period July 2012 through August 2014, that made him a trusted source for many technology journalists.[1]Blass announced his retirement from leaking devices in a tweet on August 3, 2014,[2] although he soon returned to leaking under his proper name.

      Career[edit]
From 2005-2008, Blass held several positions at AOL-owned technology site Engadget, including senior editor,[3] before departing to write briefly for the now defunct technology publication Obsessable.[4]From 2010-2012, Blass was managing editor of mobile technology site Pocketnow.[3]

Blass was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2004, and in November 2013 was the subject of a report on The Verge documenting a controversial Walgreens policy pertaining to the dispensation of narcotic painkillers.[5]

On November 23, 2015, Blass started writing for VentureBeat.

      he was anonymous at first....

For nearly a year, Blass maintained the @evleaks account anonymously—while some of his colleagues knew of his identity, he purposely kept it hidden from the public at large. In June 2013, Blass fully revealed himself in an interview with Android Police,[6]citing the inevitability of being unmasked as the reason for his decision.

In early 2016, Blass continued to leak accurate details of then-unreleased flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G5, HTC 10 and Huawei P9 through tweets and VentureBeat articles.

He must have made his unique career by himself and people just shove stuff under his door as part of corporate policy. Samsung shoved his nice reveal of Spotify/swimming....

    Some text to review...

    1. inside Samsung, there was some differences over the development, here is a nice snip...

If Samsung had its choice, it would rather avoid the regulatory headaches, too. One engineer source told me that the company’s real interest was producing a low-cost health watch with some fancy sensors that it could sell in FitBit-like volume to consumers. If that was the real goal, the Simband, with its sophisticated sensors, had badly overshot the mark......

one other BF snip of text

and we are very happy to be included in a design that we believe will receive extensive media coverage.
    2. This watch is not going to be like the other ones that have been shipped in the market.
    extensive media coverage.

Use the news items to start to get a feel for that.

    1. With each piece of incremental info the odds change.

Wikipedia actually has a very good entry on

      Wikipedia:The duck test
    Will track along.

This Samsung pro device....Lookin pretty sweet as far as the device and what a great step up from the existing device!

And as far as PR campaigns...Samsung's recent efforts with the S8 were so IMPRESSIVE!
