Aisle411, the St. Louis-based tech company that has developed indoor mapping capabilities for retailers, has added Toys "R" Us as a new client.
The deal is part of Toys"R"Us' plan to make finding toys easier for consumers during the 2014 holiday season, which includes digital store-specific maps.
Toys"R"Us officials were not able comment on the story.
In a statement, the company said shoppers will be able to use their smartphones to scan a QR code on a navigational store layout sign at the entrance of Toys"R"Us stores to access a mobile-optimized store map, allowing them to search for specific products by name, item number or category, and pinpoint their exact in-aisle location
In an interview with Fortune, Toys"R"Us U.S. President Hank Mullany said, "What we've learned from our customers is they need help with gift solutions, they don't want to be overwhelmed and walk into a 200,000-square-foot store where they can't find their way around and they want us to make it easy for them."
Aisle411 has raised more than $10 million since being founded in 2008. Revenue for the company was not disclosed.
In June, aisle411 announced a partnership with Google and Walgreens, where aisle411 was contracting with Walgreens to pilot an augmented reality application on Google's Project Tango device by using its mapping technology.
Users of the app, which is being tested at four Walgreens locations in the country, will be able walk up and down Walgreens aisles while using the Tango to view available deals or promotions from brands or products using virtual reality.
Aisle411, co-founded by Nathan Pettyjohn and Matthew Kulig, is now in more than 13,000 stores nationwide, including The Home DepotSchnucks and HyVee as well as Walgreens and Toys"R"Us.
